BOMA BESt Certification

We are proud to announce that our entire Canadian portfolio has achieved the distinguished, “BESt” (Building Environmental Standards) Certification from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada. The BOMA BESt Program is a National Environmental Recognition and Certification Program for commercial buildings in Canada. In order for a building to obtain the BESt Certification, each building must meet minimum requirements identified within the following key environmental areas:
  • Energy (Energy Consumption, Features, Management, Transportation)
  • Water (Water Efficiency)
  • Resources (Waste Reduction And Recycling; Site)
  • Emissions, Effluents And Other Impacts (Air Emissions; Ozone Depletion; Water Effluents, Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Products, Health & Safety And WHMIS)
  • Indoor Environment (Indoor Air, Lighting, Noise)
  • Environmental Management (EMS Documentation, Purchasing Policy, Emergency Response, Tenant Awareness)
This certification is of value, not only to property owners and managers, but to Tenants as well.  The program provides an environmental ‘best practice’ benchmark for professionally managed buildings and fosters environmental consciousness in the commercial building industry.   This all translates to savings, whether it is monetary or planetary. Energy and water cost reductions are passed on directly to Tenants and increased awareness and participation in our National Recycling Program have substantially cut down on waste sent to the landfill.  Brookfield continually reviews our Environmental Programs and their effectiveness; we welcome your thoughts and feedback on our programs.
