As Chief Administrative Officer, Brian McCarthy’s responsibilities include oversight of property management, national operations, ordinary capital, security, energy, sustainability, and office services for the U.S. operations of retail at Brookfield Properties. He manages operating expenses of more than $1.2 billion for the company’s portfolio of over 130 retail centers, as well as managing capital expenditures in excess of $100 million annually.
For more than two decades, Brian has worked in a variety of areas within the company, previously serving as the Executive Vice President of Asset Management. Brian and his team have invested over $320 million in energy initiatives, earning a return of over 14%. As a result of these efforts, Brookfield Properties’ U.S. retail business has earned six consecutive GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) Green Star awards and is ranked 7th in the U.S. for installed on-site solar production.
Brian graduated with a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
