About Terry Winters

A painter, draftsman, and printmaker, Terry Winters lives and works in New York City and Columbia County, New York. While his early paintings possess a minimalism influenced by Brice Marden, his work evolved to depict organic shapes and abstracted images of botanicals, and schematic references to scientific processes. Although Winters’ work has become more complex over time, his process has remained the same—since the beginning, he has collected images and assembled collages of references to prepare ideas for his paintings. These collages reveal unforeseen connections between found images, which Winters likens to a “readymade” that he strives to perfect.
