About the work
Moshekwa Langa’s large-scale works on paper are central to his project. Often dreamlike in appearance, they result from a meditative process of layering and experimental mark making. Poetic and sentimental, Langa’s work seeks to create visualizations of events and feelings not translatable to language while grappling with the slippery qualities of meaning.

About Moshekwa Langa
Moshekwa Langa (b. 1975, Bakenberg, South Africa) works across drawing, installation, video, and photography. Influenced by his upbringing in rural, apartheid-era South Africa, Langa actively maps his own autobiography in his work, using significant people, events, and places in his life as a foundation to reflect on physical and psychological borders. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland (2011); Modern Art Oxford, United Kingdom (2007); The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago (1999); among others. His work has been included in numerous international biennials including the 10th Berlin Biennale, Germany (2018); the 13th Dakar Biennale, Senegal (2018); and the 50th and 53rd editions of the Venice Biennale, Italy (2003 and 2009).
