About the work
Executed in 2013 by Elliott Puckette (American – born 1967), The Locust and the Bird, 2013, exemplifies her style of using incised, purposeful lines, which evoke the curvature of the body, musical notes and 19th century adornment. These lyrical compositions mask their laborious creation, wherein every line is meticulously etched into grounds of ink wash and gesso. Puckette’s work can be seen in the permanent collection of renowned institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, The New York Public Library and the Fogg Art Museum, Boston. She has had solo shows at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York City and her work has been featured in numerous publications such as Art in America, Artforum, Art + Auction, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Elle Décor, and Vogue.
