About the work

Fond of wild color combinations, natural light, and diverse materials, Pardo’s vivid drawings originate from digitally manipulated found images. The source imagery for these works is drawn from the artwork of Sarah Charlesworth, an important American photographer from the 1980s. Once Pardo rendered Charlesworth’s images barely recognizable and the compositions became almost completely abstract, the outlines were engraved into board and filled with vibrant tones of colored pencil and acrylic paint. The drawings were then sealed with a layer of automotive lacquer, creating an alluring surface that references the high shine of Charlesworth’s photographic prints. Pardo’s finished drawings function as an archive of Charlesworth’s photographs, which appear like shadows trapped under his glittering façades.
