Whiz Kid
Kevin Ghiglione
Calgary

Location: Bankers Hall, 315 8 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB
About the work
Whiz Kid is an encaustic diptych measuring 72″ x 72″. The work explores the idea of potential, promise, and resilience through layered surfaces that are painted, overpainted, adjusted, repaired, and obscured while revealing glimpses of the original spark beneath. Inspired by the notion of the “one child in every class who shines,” the piece reflects on growth, time, and the endurance of possibility despite setbacks.
Located at Bond at Bankers Hall, the piece harmonizes with the tenant-exclusive amenities and elevates the everyday experience for tenants.

About the artist
Kevin Ghiglione is a Calgary-based contemporary artist whose work investigates the traces of humanity through time — evidence of wear, vestiges of life, and lost knowledge. His large-scale paintings, like Whiz Kid, are created using layered encaustic medium, while his smaller works are predominantly mixed media acrylic. Ghiglione’s work invites viewers to discover the layers and question what remains hidden.
