ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:
Oran Etkin (June 1) has been described as "ebullient" by The New York Times and "composer of eminent individuality" by Yusef Lateef. He was voted #1 Rising Star Clarinetist in DownBeat Magazine's Critics Poll. His music can be heard on concert stages worldwide and numerous recordings including a GRAMMY Award Winning compilation. With his new Open Arms Project, Etkin released a series of singles and music videos filmed and recorded on location with great masters in Harare, Zimbabwe, Rio de Janeiro, Prague, Paris and São Paulo. Etkin is on the faculty of The New School and has been invited several times to Harvard University as a guest lecturer.
Our Band (June 8) is steeped in the tradition of great male and female duets. Vocalist and pianist/accordionist Sasha Papernik and guitarist and vocalist Justin Poindexter bring their award-winning songwriting, intimate harmonies, and Eastern-European flair to a rich Americana soundscape. Together, they have performed for audiences in some of the world’s greatest venues, from Carnegie Hall to Lincoln Center to the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
Ani Cordero (June 15) is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter and activist with a knack for writing catchy songs of resistance. Cordero pairs defiance and jubilance -- a dance party for the end of the world. Latin-infused beats, bouncy bass lines, and sparkling guitars propel Cordero’s warm and powerful voice. Cordero has received accolades from NPR's All Things Considered, USA Today, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Remezcla, and more.
Sonny Singh's (June 22) music is simultaneously spiritual and rebellious, a reminder that hope, love, and devotion are crucial to our struggles and collective survival. Sonny has brought his fiery trumpet playing and vocals to audiences around the world for the last decade as an original member of the bhangra brass band Red Baraat. In 2020, he launched a new project of boundary-defying Punjabi anthems to uplift and ignite.
Michela Marino Lerman (June 29) is a globally sought-after tap dance artist, performer, choreographer, educator and all-around creative spirit. She is very proudly a student of Buster Brown, Gregory Hines, Leroy Myers and Marion Coles. Bass player Russell Hall is revered as one of the most in demand artists in NYC, performing with some of the biggest names in music, dance and film. Russell’s own work has been acknowledged with prestige in some of the most renowned venues and festivals around the world.
