Tasmeem: De-sign Scrapyard

Tasmeem: De-sign Scrapyard is the annual graphic design and poster show based in Dubai and held by ICD Brookfield Place. The exhibition aims to expand upon the discourse related to graphic design — through the medium of the poster — and provide a platform for upcoming as well as established talent in the region.

The selection of posters on display introduce letterforms and visuals as their new identities. The posters challenge former versions of themselves, breathing new life into their current selves. By methods of creating new meanings, composition, scale, shapes, forms and letterforms, materials - you can retell a story with a different ending. They use past clues and cues to form new investigations. 

The exhibition aims to highlight the design process and destigmatize the idea of scrapped work. Create your own De-sign Scrapyard; an ode to lost ideas, unfinished thoughts, and could have beens.

Showcasing 12 artworks selected through an open call, De-Sign Scrapyard by Tasmeem is free and open to the public, beginning June 15, 2023.

This year's open call was developed by Designer and Artist Mariam AlZayani (@mariamalzayani).

The exhibition’s selection committee members consist of Special Project Director at Alserkal Advisory Fiza Akram (@fizaakram), Graphic Designer, Calligrapher and Winner of Tasmeem’s first edition Ibrahim Khamayseh (@ibrahimzaki.kh); Designer and Researcher Imad Gebrayel (@imadgebrayel); Multidisciplinary Visual Art and Design Studio Turbo (@45turbo); and Independent Design Studio 40MUSTAQEL (@ 40mustaqel).
